Cape Verdean culture is a mixture of African and European culture. Cape Verde has, above all, a vast spectrum of music that effects the diverse origins of the Cape Verdean population.
Participants are matched with an initial puzzle partner to assemble an original Sarah Jane Lapp 24-piece jigsaw puzzle for the duration of a song. When the song changes, partners change, too! Delicious hand pies provided. LGBTQIA2S+ welcome.
A day long free and open to the public celebration to conjoin people of the African Diaspora (Americas, Caribbean, and Africa) through art and culture. Juneteenth is a day for honoring the “freedom” of all people living in the United States. The Juneteenth RI Festival fosters unity and takes on the challenge of bringing together people of different cultures and backgrounds and provides an experience that will band us together for generations.
The film screening of Price of Admission and discussion in honor of Juneteenth and the history of black baseball in Rhode Island will take place June 19, 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM.

From January 19 to February 20, 195 District Park will be part of Lumina, a month-long light and art installation connecting the Providence Rink Bank Newport City Center and the park via a light-adorned Dorrance Street and featuring several exciting activities throughout the month.
Making its Rhode Island debut, Prismatica transforms the park into a kaleidoscope of color and sound. Twenty-five prisms invite visitors to engage with the rotating forms while soft bell tones blanket the serene riverfront park.
Rhode Island Computer Museum, in cooperation with DESIGN WEEK RI and 195 District Park, is excited to announce Fabrication Fest, a celebration of design and fabrication on November 4th, 2023 (Rescheduled from 9/22). The focus of the event is on those places where design and fabrication meet. Everything from traditional methods of making things to digital fabrication with machines will be showcased at this show-and-tell event. Fabrication Fest takes place outdoors and will be free and open to the public.
The Third Annual Wicked Walk: A Trick-Or-Treat Experience is a free public event that provides a safe, accessible, & high-quality immersive environment for youth & families to celebrate Halloween.
Thousands of Attendees explore enchanting interactive themed Halloween Doors and StoryWalk adorning the MVL Memorial Bridge. While delighting in a Trick or Treat at each door, families will also enjoy Halloween crafts, activities, & a captivating Ghost Haunt Adventure Walk in the 195 District Park.
PVD World Music Series features traditional and fusion global sounds and dance performed by performers from all over the world who call Providence and New England home. The concerts, as in previous years, feature indigenous music histories and customs that have been passed down orally from generation to generation for thousands of years with special focus on traditional African and African Diaspora music and dance performances. The concerts provide an opportunity to learn more about the colorful arts of Africa and its diaspora.
There will be rotating food trucks each event including the likes of: Jah Patty, Spanglish, Mings and Farm to Table. Cold beer and non-alcoholic drinks will be available at the Guild Beer Garden.
Take a seat and lose yourself in a foam of short experimental films featuring Portal Rental’s energetic music, live-action footage, stop-motion animation, and puppetry.
Free! Duration: 8 minutes. The portal can hold 4-6 visitors at a time.

In addition to the food and music, during May and June, the concerts will take place next to an artisan market curated by Field of Artisans.
WaterFire Providence announces Starts At Sunset, a new community gathering on the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Pedestrian Bridge and 195 District Park sponsored by the Providence Tourism Council. This unique activation invites artists and observers to experience a night of immersive placemaking with living tableaus set against the backdrop of a picturesque sunset. WaterFire volunteers will be illuminating the bridge with the glow of five braziers.
On August 7th Community Libraries of Providence will host a celebration of Guatemalan nature and culture, as they conclude this Summer's Bibliodiversity program.
From 6-8 PM Ricky will lead a surf-related craft time, and at 8 PM the sun will go down, it’s SHOWTIME! with special guests, puppets, games, dancing, and surprises! See you then! Fun and free for the whole family.
